The beluga whale in this picture is Aurora. Noted for rake marks
down her left jaw, Aurora was wild caught in Russia and imported to Marineland in December 2008. Although beluga whales are found in Canada, it is illegal to capture them and place them in captivity. A loop hole allows for Marineland to import wild caught animals from other countries, namely Russia, and many have spoke out against closing this loophole - including NDP MP Libby Davies. We long for the day when this highly social - near threatened - species are no longer held captive for profit.
