Kiska is the only remaining Orca Whale at Marineland. Because of their complex social structures it is illegal in the USA to keep an Orca alone in captivity, however no such laws exist in Canada. Kiska was brought to Marineland after being captured and removed from the wild in Iceland in 1979 at the age of 3. Since it’s opening, Marineland has exhibited 29 Orca Whales – 26 of which have died, and 2 of the remaining 3 are now located at Seaworld. Of the 26 deceased whales, 5 were children of Kiska; none of whom lived longer than 6 years. In the wild an Orca whale can live up to 60 years.
